No Time To Bake? What To Do When you Want To Bless Someone With A Meal or Baked Treat But You Are Short On Time

No Time To Bake

Let’s face it, our lives can get crazy, busy at times with work, children’s activities, commitments and responsibilities. There have been a few occasions in my life when I wanted to bless someone with a meal or baked treat to cheer them up, but I just did not have time to cook or bake. Just this past week, my neighbor and friend was in the hospital with her sweet 3 week old baby boy for a week and a half. Having had the experience of having to leave my triplets in the hospital when they were born prematurely, I knew a little bit of what she was going though and how she was feeling. I was always so hungry when I was at the hospital with the babies…I never wanted to leave their side to get food. I have had a very busy week this week, so I decided to raid my pantry for any healthy snack items for my friend to munch on during her stay in the hospital. I found peanut butter cracks and dark chocolate covered nut clusters. I also threw in a handful of peppermint life savers along with some back issues of Better Homes and Gardens and HGTV Magazine. I also stopped at Panera and loaded up on scones, muffins, a breakfast souflee, a fruit cup, and lunch for the day. Although I wished I had time to make something homemade, my friend was just as blessed with my snacks and Panera goodies. Sometimes its just that simple act of kindness that matters most! It doesn’t always need to be homemade!

Maybe you have a loved one who could benefit from a meal or baked treat but they live far away. Or…..maybe you just do not like to bake. Here are some ways that you can bless someone with a meal or baked treat when life is busy, you live far away, or you do not like to bake.

When You Don’t Have Time To Cook or Bake or You Just Do Not Enjoy Baking:

  1. Order a pan of mostacholi or lasagna from your favorite local Italian Restaurant. You can pick it up and deliver it to your loved one, or you can have it delivered if that option is available.
  2. Order a meal from a local restaurant and have it delivered or pick it up and deliver it yourself.
  3. Stop at your favorite bakery in town to pick up a few great baked treats. Package them yourself in a nice box or bag and deliver it to your loved one. Panera is a great option, as well as Nothing Bundt Cakes. They have individual Bundt Cakes in many flavors and they are quite delicious!! Their website says they deliver locally, so that would be a great option if you do not have time to deliver the cake yourself!!
  4. Order from Kate’s Cookies in Chicago.  Kate makes a large variety of cookies and breads with many gluten-free options. Cranberry Toffee, Grandma’s Crispies (butterscotch and chocolate chips), oatmeal chocolate chip (and raisin), and chocolate peanut butter are just a few of the cookie flavors that Kate’s Cookies offers. She also offers a gooey butter cake and sweet breads. Kate only uses the highest quality ingredients, and does not put her name on a product until she has perfected it. Here is a quote from a good friend who frequently orders from Kate’s Cookies.”I love all Kate’s cookies, but my favorite are her oatmeal chocolate chip and raisin cookies, because they taste like something your Grandma would have made for you. Its a yummy comforting treat. I also love the white chocolate cranberry cookies because they taste deliciously gourmet.” (A quote from my friend K) You can check out Kate’s promo video HERE. I have also shared a video of a man tasting Kate’s Ooey gooey Butter Cake on my Facebook page. You MUST see this man’s reaction!

If you live in the Lakeview area, you can find Kate’s Cookies at the Lakeview Market. You can also place an order on her website to have any of her items shipped. They ship on Mondays and Tuesdays and orders take 1-2 days to arrive.

Kate has been so generous and has offered a 20% off coupon code for my readers!! Use the code BKEBLSG20 when you place your oder!

Kate's Cookies

When Your Loved One Lives Far Away:

  1. Order a cookie card from I have used this option on a number of occasions. Recently, friends of mine had their son in the hospital fighting a nasty virus. They live a little over an hour away, so I sent him a cookie card. The cards are so cute, and they give you the option to include a personal message. They have cards for many occasions including birthdays, new baby, thank you, mother’s day, just because, and get well. The cards are $5.99 and come with a $5 coupon! It does take a few days to have the card delivered, so plan accordingly. They also have mini birthday cakes  packaged in a cute tin for $12.99. They also have gluten-free options. Everyone I have sent a cookie card to loves getting that sweet surprise in the mail!

2. Find a catering company in your loved one’s area. I have also done this on a number of occasions. When my brother-in-law and sister-in-law had their first child, I desperately wanted to be able to make them a few meals. They live in Houston, which is quite far from Illinois! So, I found a catering company that delivered a few meals including a breakfast meal and a couple of dinners.

3. Find a Nothing Bundt Cakes in your loved one’s area and have them deliver a bundt cake.

4. Send a gift card to a local restaurant that delivers or for a pizza delivery place.

5. Kate’s Cookie’s (who I mentioned above) takes orders to be shipped. This is a great option for cookies and breads that taste homemade! She also offers many gluten-free options! They ship on Mondays and Tuesdays and orders take 1-2 days to arrive. Use the coupon code BKEBLSG20 for 20% off your order. Thank you Kate!!

Bake and Share Ideas:

There are really many many occasions in which any of these options would be appropriate…

mother’s day/fathers day

cheering up

Just because

Someone is ill or just had surgery

new baby

bereavement-breakfast and dinner for a grieving family is usually appreciated

celebrating a big event-communion, confirmation, graduation, new job, achieving a goal
